The History of "SPENT"

The original idea for SPENT came when drummer Will Cooper's other band FOLD weren't practicing and hadn't played together for ages and Will wanted to set up a jam band so he could play when FOLD weren't. He knew Josh Ling (guitars, vocals) from school and they talked about playing in a band together. Josh was also in a band at the time - Strap On Sally. Will also knew Ross Aitken from a while back when he had temporarily replaced Alex Bird on bass for FOLD. They organised to go and jam at Will's house. Shortly after that FOLD and Strap On Sally both started playing again and SPENT was temporarily put on hold. A while after this Josh and Will started talking about playing again, but more serious this time. They talked about playing shows and recording tapes and CDs. Only a few days after this discussion Josh had an argument with Strap On Sally bass player Paul Mitchell and he quit the band to join SPENT permanently. A few days after this the guitarist out of FOLD (Will's other band), Simon McCabe joined Strap On Sally as Josh's replacement. After this had occured, SPENT played their first gig under the name "Dead Right" at Walsall Skate Park. When the show had finished Will and Josh sat down to talk about getting rid of Ross because he wasn't good enough for what they wanted. A few days later he was out of the band and SPENT were looking for a new bass player. Alex Bird (FOLD bassist) was so pissed off with Simon joining Strap On Sally that he joined as Ross's permanent replacement. SPENT then played a number of shows under the moniker "Checkered Life". This was followed by a final choosing of the name SPENT. The band played their first gig under the name SPENT at the Red Rose in Rugeley. Since that gig the band worked hard on new material, it is in a heavier, darker vein to that of their earlier material and was given its first showing at the Little Civic in Wolverhampton. Since that gig the band started practising as much as possible so they are tight when they start recording in february. On february the 1st SPENT entered the studio indending to record around 4-5 songs, unfortunately they were only able to record 3, but the quality of the songs were fantastic as they did many takes of each one to ensure the tightest possible outcome. On february the 13th just Josh and Will returned to Robannas Studios in Aston, Birmingham to mixdown the 3 tracks. Due to unfortunate circumstances Alex wasn't able to accompany them. The mixdown was a great sucess and now will and Josh are listening to the beautiful and unmerciful tones of SPENT's new "Desperate times" Ep. Wahay!!!!!
